Very nice helmet, wood and pigment, typical of the cult of ethnic Gelede Yoruba in Nigeria

Nigeria is structured by many cults, the best known is the Gelede worship which honors the spiritual powers of older women, affectionately referred to as "Awon iya wa" (our mothers). These powers are used for the benefit of society, but when women express their negative dimension, they are called "Aja" (witch). Actors Gelede out and dance on the occasion of the death of a member of their sect or a ritual annual festival. These practices reflect the belief that the prosperity of a community is related to fertility
