Famous worldwide, the Kingdom of Ife bronzes are cast in molds made of wax mold destroyed (technique known as the "lost wax"). This work begins with the shaping of a wax sculpture, then this wax is molded in the coating of a refractory material carefully: The Banko. After drying, the whole is heated, the wax melts and flows through the "lack" of the mold that has been planned and built for this purpose. At the right time, the empty mold wax is filled with liquid metal. The transformation is complete wax and bronze. After solidification and cooling of the bronze (brass by Western standards), it breaks the mold to extract the sculpture. Follows a long and delicate finish work ...
